As Bangladesh approaches its 2026 LDC graduation, balancing industrial growth with environmental stewardship is critical for our economic survival. Nowhere is this more urgent than in our Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector and other export-oriented industrial sectors. With major export markets enforcing strict regulations like the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and other upcoming 2026 EU omnibus regulations, our industries urgently require reliable technical and decarbonisation solutions equipped with advanced automation technologies to help reduce their burden and complexity.
Failing to adopt these measures is no longer just an environmental risk; it is an existential business threat. Factories that delay the transition face severe carbon penalties, the loss of critical international buyers to greener competitors, and permanent exclusion from premium supply chains. This poses a direct threat to Bangladesh’s GDP and employment opportunities for semi-skilled and low-skilled labor, which could lead to a critical socio-economic crisis for the country. Moreover, the unplanned disposal of polyester-based fabrics and other non-biodegradable materials is creating microplastic pollution in our natural resources and even our food chain.
My other company, NewVision Solutions Limited, is one of the few entities in Bangladesh, that has been working to develop and implement NbS-focused carbon reduction projects.
